On November 26th 2010, the Associazione Volontari l’Accoglienza could officially attend the opening of a beauty parlour facility implemented inside the Adigrat prison and dedicated to women.
The project has been financed to give the female prisoners professional training as women’s hairdressers.
Around 75% of the women in prison have children aged between 1 and 9 years old. They are alone and therefore dependant on others with no outside help and no qualifications.
The objective of this project was to:
- Guarantee professional training for their future.
- Make detainees independent from the moment they leave prison.
- Restore their dignity for the future, allowing them, through training, to have a creative job and good mental stability/equilibrium.
