On 26th June 2009, in front of the local population and many people who had come from nearby villages, a well was unveiled in AWADO, in the woreda of Irob, 45 km northeast of the centre Adigrat, Tigray Region, Ethiopia.
The well is 40 metres deep and will meet the water needs of around 700 people. The necessary funds were made available by the Volontari l’Accoglienza Association (Province of Turin).
The area is particularly barren and difficult to access, where there are widespread intestinal infections, which especially affect children and are caused by the domestic use of water from unsafe sources (in particular stagnant water).
